Responsibilities to God, His Church and His People


 

Rights Reserved to a Particular Church
from the Evangelical Presbyterian Church

The particular church has the right to elect Trustees from within its membership who have demonstrated a consistent Christian life and who shall have the power, upon authorization from the congregation, to buy, sell, mortgage property, accept and execute deeds, to hold and defend titles to the same, and to assume other such related duties as may be assigned to them. The responsibilities of the Trustees shall not infringe upon the duties or powers of the Church Session or the Board of Deacons, and their authority is always subject to the instruction of the congregation or Church Session. When a congregation is legally incorporated it shall be limited by the constitution of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in establishing its charter and by-laws.

The Board of Trustees
from the Dundalk Presbyterian Church By-Laws

      "There shall be fifteen trustees divided into three equal classes, once class of whom shall be elected each year at the annual meeting of the congregation for a three-year term. No Trustee shall serve on the Board of Trustees for consecutive terms, either full or partial aggregating more than six years, but shall be eligible to be elected to a new term after one year shall have elapsed Any Trustee who shall haw~ failed to attend four consecutive regularly scheduled monthly meetings of the Board of Trustees shall automatically, by operation of these By-Laws, and without the necessity of any confirming action whatsoever, cease to be a member of the Board of Trustees as of the time of adjournment of the fourth consecutive meeting. However, the Board of trustees at the fourth such consecutive monthly meeting or at the next regular or special meeting thereafter may by majority vote of those present continue such individual in office or reinstate him to serve the remainder of his term as Trustee; if this action be not taken by the Board of trustees in a timely manner as herein provided, the position thus vacated shall remain vacant until filled by the congregation as provided in article 17 hereof"
