Who Are We?

Stitches from the Heart is a nation-wide non-profit organization that sends handmade clothing, blankets, and love to premature babies all across the nation. We also have a senior program that helps seniors help others by donating yarn and supplies.

     Did You Know?

  • Every 8 seconds a baby is born in the United states
  • Every 2 minutes a low birth weight baby is born.
  • Every year more than 4,200 babies are born weighing less than a pound.
  • Every minute a baby is born to a teen mother.
  • Each day 410 babies are born to mother who started prenatal care in the 3rd trimester or received no prenatal care at all.
  • More than 1 in 9 infants is born pre term (less than 37 weeks gestation)
  • The US infant mortality rate is higher than 25 other nations.

Based on 1998 final data from the National Center for the Health Statistics and estimates from the CDC.

How Can You Help?

If you want to help, but are unable to devote the time to knit, crochet or quilt, you can make a much needed financial contribution. Your generous donation helps to cover the cost of mailing the clothing to the hospitals and charities we help throughout the United States. They also help with our Senior program, in which we make yarn and supplies available to Seniors. This way, those on a fixed income can still help these tiny children and at the same time get the fulfillment that comes with helping others.

Locally - Where, When, and Why Do We Meet?

We meet once a month, the last Saturday of each month, at Dundalk Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall from 10:00 - 12:30. Our time is spent in fellowship, blanket making, and a brown bag lunch. Our goal is to make a difference by caring, sharing, and helping those that can not help themselves. We are currently making blankets that are so simple to make you'd be surprised.

We will continue to meet the last Saturday of each month from 10:00 a.m. –12:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Today we have sent 250 blankets to the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. Anyone who is interested in joining us is welcome to attend. All you need is a pair of sharp scissors and 1˝ yards of fleece in kid friendly colors and patterns (easily purchased at Walmart) and a brown bag lunch.

Why don't you come out and join us, or start a group of your own!
One person can make a difference.

Over the past eighteen months our volunteers have sent 750 blankets, hats and booties to the Johns Hopkins Newborn Intensive Care Unit. We continue to get notes from thankful parents who are deeply touched by our compassionate ministry.

August 2006

Dear Members --

Our children, Patrick and Campbell received fleece blankets from you at the Johns Hopkins Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. They enjoyed them there and now at home.

Thanks you for adding cheer to our hospital stay. We are happy to report that Patrick and Campbell are doing well!

Sincerely,
The Kenney Family
