The secret of song
is the Church’s most distinctive resource, not because music is more
powerful than the Word of the Spirit, but because song is a means by
which both can become so joyously conjoined – by ALL people of the
Lord!
God has called us to be worshipers.
To glorify God in this way is our chief end, both in this life and
in the life to
come. Too easily the pews become seats where
spectators sit to enjoy a performance by others. The Bible knows nothing of such a passive dimension in worshiping God. Worship
involves the entire congregation in performing for the enjoyment of
a divine audience. The pastor and other leaders are there to guide
us. Worship is ours to do, and to do as well as we can! One key
place where all of us become active is in the singing of hymns.

In preparing for worship, think of our Celebration Hymnal as part of
your script. It helps you to know what you are to say and do in
several aspects of the service. Meditate on each hymn to be sung.
Note the topic at the top of the page (indicating the overall theme)
and the Scripture. Below the hymn appear the names of the author of
the words and the composer of the music. You are voicing some of
the most heartfelt praise that was offered by God’s people who
preceded you.
I wonder if we all realize how central our song is to
the release of God’s divine power within, among and through us – the
many-membered body of Christ’s living Church.

our Christmas Eve Service, December 24th at 7:30 p.m. both Handbell

The
Contemporary Worship Service began in November of 1995. At that
time, contemporary hymns were introduced to the congregation by
using CD’s. Shortly thereafter, Aaron Brown and Mike Scanlon began
playing instruments along with the CD’s and Alice Scanlon led the
congregation in singing. Eventually the CD’s were replaced with a
complete band, which has evolved over the years. We are thankful
for all those whom God has gifted to participate with the praise
team over the past decade. Currently the band consists of:
-
Singers -
Alice Scanlon, Wendy Smith
-
Bass - Mike
Scanlon, Amber Augustyniak
-
Guitars -
Steve Pavlosky, Ray Smith
-
Drummer -
Michael Lacey

During the Worship Service we seek to glorify and praise God, not
only through prayer and God’s word, but by lifting up praises to Him
through song in a more modern way.
It is also our desire to reach the hearts of the younger generation
by singing songs that the youth listen to today and can recognize
from radio stations like
WRBS (95.1 FM) and
WGTS (91.9 FM). We lift
up our songs to our Heavenly Father who enjoys not only the
traditional hymns of praise but the new contemporary songs of
worship as well.
Praise Him with the sounding of the trumpet,
praise Him with the harp and lyre,
praise Him with tambourine and dancing,
praise Him with the strings and flute,
praise Him with the clash of cymbals,
praise Him with the resounding of cymbals.
Let everything that has breath praise the LORD.
Praise the LORD.
Psalms 150: 3-6 (NIV)

With
thankful hearts handbells became a reality at Dundalk Presbyterian
Church in 1997 through a memorial fund contributed by family,
relatives and friends in loving memory of the home-going of Elder
Orland De Libera on January 15, 1997.

Our first
Handbell Choir Handbell
ringers beginning that same year under the direction of the De
Libera dauhters; Bonnie Saul and Denise Kropkowski with Cheri
Brown's guidance were Michael Lacey, Dan and Tim Saul, Adam and Amy
Kropkowski, Aaron Brown, Christina Jones, adding
at a later date were Andrew Kropkowski, Ronald Saul, Katee, Kasey,
and Eddie Mikula, Spencer Kent and Emily Larison, each one of these
volunteering their time and talent.
In late
October, 2005 a Junior Handbell Choir was started under the
direction of Adam Kropkowski and Timothy Saul meeting each Thursday
evening at 7:00 p.m. for practice by Stephanie Cook, Rachel Morgan,
Kara Lacey, Spencer and Ellis Kent, Jonathan Burns, and Melissa
Smith. Anyone in the sixth grade and up are welcome to join.
