The Westminster Confession of
Faith
CHAPTER VIII. -- Of Christ the Mediator
7.1
It pleased God, in his eternal purpose, to choose and ordain the
Lord Jesus, his only-begotten Son, to be the Mediator between
God and men, the prophet, priest, and king; the head and Savior
of the Church, the heir or all things, and judge of the world;
unto whom he did, from all eternity, give a people to be his
seed, and to be by him in time redeemed, called, justified,
sanctified, and glorified.
The Westminster Shorter Catechism
(three of several questions)
Q. 21. Who is the
Redeemer of God’s elect?
A. The only Redeemer of God’s elect is the Lord Jesus Christ,
who, being the eternal Son of God, became man, and so was, and
continueth to be, God and man in two distinct natures, and one
person, forever.
Q. 22. How did Christ, being the Son of God, become man?
A. Christ, the Son of God, became man, by taking to himself a
true body, and a reasonable soul, being conceived by the power
of the Holy Ghost, in the womb of the virgin Mary, and born of
her, yet without sin.
Q. 23. What offices doth Christ execute as our Redeemer?
A. Christ, as our Redeemer, executeth the offices of a prophet,
of a priest, and of a king, both in his estate of humiliation
and exaltation.
ESSENTIALS OF OUR FAITH
from the EPC
Jesus Christ, the living Word, become flesh through His
miraculous conception by the Holy Spirit and His virgin birth.
He who is true God became true man united in one Person forever.
He died on the cross a sacrifice for our sins according to the
Scriptures. On the third day He arose bodily from the dead,
ascended into heaven, where, at the right hand of the Majesty on
High, He now is our High Priest and Mediator.
Jesus Christ will
come again to the earth—personally, visibly, and bodily—to judge
the living and the dead, and to consummate history and the
eternal plan of God.

QUOTES
what
other (like-minded modern-day) Christians are saying...
John
Grisham ~ Author
Christianity Today - Oct 1997
"I came under conviction when I was in the third grade, and I
talked with my mother. I told her, 'I don't understand this, but
I need to talk to you.' We talked, and she led me to Jesus. The
following Sunday I made a public confirmation of my faith. In
one sense, it was not terribly eventful for an eight-year-old,
but it was the most important event in my life."
Michael Horton --
Preaching Christ Alone
1993, Modern
Reformation Magazine (March/April Vol 2.2)
"If
our preaching does not center on Christ, from Genesis to
Revelation, no matter how good or helpful, it is not the
proclamation of God's Word."
Fred Rogers
~
TV Show Creator
"Mister Roger's Neighborhood"
Christian Century - October 1994
"I
can't imagine more surprising places for God to appear than a
manger or a cross. Yet all through his life and resurrection,
Jesus demonstrates the power of showing and sharing God's love.
Every time I write a script or a song or walk into the studio, I
pray 'Let some word that is heard be Thine.' That's really all
that matters."
Mickey Mantle ~ Baseball Athlete (Hall of Fame)
Springfield Newsletter - Aug 1995 (several days before he died)
"I'll just say, 'For God so loved the world that he gave his
only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him, should not
perish, but have everlasting life.' I am trusting Christ's death
for me to take me to heaven."
Chuck
Norris ~
Martial Arts Star & Actor
New Man - July 2000
"Real men do live for Christ. It is important to make your peace
with Christ while the opportunity exists. Life is so fragile
that you never know when it's going to be over. It could be over
in the blink of an eye, and then it's too late to accept God's
gift of salvation."
Newsboys ~ Contemporary Christian Band
In Christ Alone (verse one)
Adoration: The Worship Album
In
Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This Cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand
